Practice Groups
All training groups work on the
fundamentals of each stroke (event), starts, turns, and finishes with
the goal of teaching each swimmer to become proficient in these skills.
All swimmers are assigned a practice group based on age and competitive
experience. Some swimmers may have their group switched during the
season.
THE HOUR PRACTICE GROUP
The Hour Practice Group consists typically of 8 and under swimmers.
These swimmers are further divided
according to ability, speed, and swimming knowledge so that none are
bored and all are challenged.
All swimmers will be exposed to the 4 strokes, starts, turns, and finishes.
THE JUNIOR PRACTICE GROUP
The Juniors are usually 9 to 12 year old swimmers and some experienced 8 and unders.
These swimmers are further divided according to those who have developed skills in all specific strokes and by time.
There are more lanes per coach in this
group so it is important that swimmers respect each other and are able
to keep up with the sets.
Once a swimmer places into the Juniors,
more of a commitment is expected in terms of numbers of practices they
attend, length of practice, and participation in the practice.
THE SENIOR PRACTICE GROUP
The Seniors are those swimmers 13 and up.
As in the other practice groups, swimmers are further divided according to their knowledge and speed.
These swimmers are able to maintain a
strong commitment to the practice schedule. Senior level practices are
longer and far more demanding the practices at the Junior level.
